Once everyone has agreed that the adoption would be good for both you and the dog we release the dog with a signed adoption contract.  The contract basically states that you will provide a loving, safe, healthy home for the dog for the rest of his/her life.  If at any time we find the dog is being neglected or abused in any way we have the right to take the dog back.  If you can't keep the dog for any reason you agree to return the dog to us.

Please pay adoption fees in cash or cashiers check.  We are in the processs of getting our non-profit status.  Until then, donations won't be tax deductable.  Your adoption donation will go to medical care, food, and shelter for rescued animals.

Inter-Island Adoptions
We are moving towards state-wide and mainland adoptions!  Our mission is for every animal to have a happy, well balanced, safe life.  This program is in the beginning stages.  To adopt from another island we take each adoption and arrangements meetings and transportation on an individual basis.  So far it has been successful by simply transporting by airline.  There may be additional costs involved for transportation depending on our rescue funding and the ability of the shipper to cover costs.

About our Dogs
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered and either on heartworm preventative or being treated for heartworm.  If we have the dog long enough he/she will receive basic vaccinations.  Each dog we rescue gets immediate and continuing medical care, nutritional diet, training, exercise (as much as we can), and lots of love.

What you need to know and consider when adopting an animal
Dogs are dogs.  They are animals.  They want to be treated like and animal not a humane being.  This means that your dog does not have the reasoning skills or understand communication in the same way another humane being will.  They do however, have feelings, like a nice soft bed, need plenty of exercise and healthy food, love treats, are very social, and NEED to be a member of your pack/family.  They want a routine, discipline, to know what is expected of them and are very willing to please.

When you bring a new dog home he/she will be nervous and at least a little scared.  We reccomend taking your dog for a long walk before you enter your home.  Let the dog begin to build a relationship with you first.

Compatability
Dogs are like people in that they have different energy levels.  Choosing a dog is more than just color and cuteness.  The best relationship for the dog and for you is one with things in common.  If you jog then you want a dog that has the ability to jog.  If you love the beach, a water-loving dog would be grateful to be part of your family.  Get the idea?

Adjustment
Your dog will need some to adjust to his/her new life.  Be patient.  Accidents WILL happen!  Be patient and firm and loving.
